Former Director-General of Police and ex-Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission Pervaram Ramulu on Sunday joined the Telugu Desam amid fanfare.

Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu draped the trademark yellow `khanduwa' around Mr. Ramulu and welcomed him into the party fold at the party office here. Mr. Ramulu was cheered by hundreds of his supporters.

Later addressing them, Mr. Naidu said the TDP doors were always open for people who held high posts and wished to spend their post-retirement serving the people. He cited the example of how former Central Bureau of Investigation Director K. Vijayarama Rao had joined the TDP.

Mr. Ramulu was known to be an upright officer, Mr. Naidu said, recalling his association with him since 1979 when he was Superintendent of Police, Chittoor.

Mr. Ramulu said he was attracted to the TDP because of its high level of clarity and transparency in its approach to people's problems. He recalled how Mr. Naidu undertook 17 rounds of `Janmabhoomi' programme.

Others who also spoke of their acquaintance with Mr. Ramulu included TDP Polit Bureau member T. Devender Goud, party general secretary K. Srihari, Warangal district president R. Prakash Reddy, MLA E. Dayakar Rao and former Warangal MP B. Venkateshwarlu.
